ext month members in the Douglass Alumni Association Inc. will be electing its next President.

This yearÕs election cycle is sure to be an exciting one. The central issue that seems to be sure to dominate this yearÕs election relates to the expenditure of funds raised by the DAA.

In the past, monies raised by the DAA were voluntarily shared with the National Douglass Alumni CorporationÕs (NDAC), itÕs sister organization.

And while NDAC conventions have been held around the country in various major cities, Chicago, Detroit and California to name a few, the 2012 NDAC convention has run into problems with itÕs Detroit host. DAA unaffected by this issue continues to push forward progressing well with itÕs membership base.

Since the arrival of current DAA President John Bernard in 2009, the DAA has been on a new course and has gained some ground.

Regina Hill from the Class of 1981 released a 3-part email to supporters with the message:

1.) Take advantage of the $30 dollar membership in time to vote in this yearÕs election

2.) Giving her strong support for current DAA President John Bernard and

3.) Attend the meeting this Saturday, April 9, 2011 to become a member and have your voice heard in time for this yearÕs DAA election.

After which, Joe Ferby, (74) and former DAA Scholarship Chairperson sent a communiquˇ to CFN stating his support for current DAA President John Bernard as well.

Ferby mentioned that Bernard had founded the Old School vs New School Basketball Games and that ALL monies ($5,000+) went to the new Douglass High School as well as other similar accomplishments cited by Ferby.

While it is probable that Bernard will run unopposed he clearly is the man to beat and has some impressive accomplishments to boot.

Stay tuned for further updates on the DAA upcoming election! See you at the meeting this Saturday!
